CIE TEACHING AND LEARNING LAB
Culturally Intentional Education (CIE) is an interdisciplinary approach to the teaching of art, socio - politics, and literature in order to foster critical and creative literacy and thinking in diverse secondary English classrooms. CIE is an understanding of the complexity that exists in the relationship between minority communities and literacy and the instruction of such students.
CIE Teaching and Learning Lab is a space for educators to become a part of a learning community that centers literary studies and instruction as a means to impact literacy across high school English classrooms.

Culturally Intentional Teacher Education calls for secondary English teachers of diverse classrooms to contextualize themselves and their students. This human centered approach to teacher education creates space for an understanding of cultural nuances, influence, and relationships with language and literature. Culturally Intentional Pedagogy calls for secondary English teachers of diverse classrooms to make space for the needs of themselves and their students through the integration of dialogics, critical and creative literacy instruction, and community making in their classrooms. Culturally Intentional Curriculum calls for secondary English teachers of diverse classrooms to contextualize literature through the development of bespoke lessons and / or curriculum that include thoughtful integration of arts, culture, and socio - politics in order to present literature through the lens of the time and space in which writers produce their works and the subsequent relativity to the teacher, student, and their communities.
